Ukraine closes 23 checkpoints on border with Russia (UPDATED)

“To close checkpoints across the national border as listed in the exhibit. The Foreign Ministry is to notify foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine, as well as Ukraine’s diplomatic missions and consular departments about the closure of the checkpoints,” according to a governmental order N106-r of Feb. 18, posted on the government’s website.

The list includes ten checkpoints in Luhansk region (three for motor vehicles, one for trains, and eight for both motor vehicles and pedestrians), two in Donetsk region, nine in Sumy region, one in Chernihiv region and one in Kharkiv region (all these are both for motor vehicles and pedestrians), the document reads.

Five of the closed checkpoints (N441300 in Demyne-Oleksandrivka, N441100 in Novobila, N440700 in Vilkhove in Luhansk region, N590000 in Sopych in Sumy region, and N630500 in Budarky in Kharkiv region are international, the other 18 are local.

In particular, the checkpoints closed in Sumy region are: N592100 in Volodymyrivka, N592000 in Ryzhivka, N591900 in Kindrativka, N591500 in Volfyne, N591300 in Boyaro-Lezhachi, N591700 in Starykove, N591600 in Novovasylivka, N591800 in Popivka and N590000 in Sopych (all of them are local, both for motor vehicles and for pedestrians). In Chernihiv Oblast, the local checkpoint (motorway/pedestrian) N741400 in Kliusy has been closed; in Kharkiv region, the international checkpoint (motorway/pedestrian) N630500 in Budarky.

In Luhansk Oblast, the closed checkpoints (motorway/pedestrian) include five government-controlled: N441300 in Demyne-Oleksandrivka, N441100 in Novobila, N442100 in Zarynivka, N442000 in Oleksandrivka, N440700 in Vilkhove; and five not controlled by the central government: N440300 in Chervonopartyzansk, N441500 in Novoborivtsi, N441600 and N442400 in Krasnodarsky and N441700 in Pivnichny. Also closed are two (motorway/pedestrian) checkpoints in Donetsk region N140900 in Ulianivske and N141000 in Uspenka Station. These two areas are not controlled by the central government.
