In the early pre-dawn hours of Sunday, August 24, explosions were heard in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy as the region was under attack by Russian Shahed strike drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
The Air Force reported that around 02:00 Kyiv time (23:00, Aug. 23, UTC), enemy strike drones were detected in the airspace over the Sumy region.

Suspilne reported explosions in the cityat 02:46, with more heard about 15 minutes later.
At 04:00, there were no official reports of casualties or damage, according to RBC-News Ukraine.
The acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, stated that some of the explosions heard in the city occurred outside the Sumy city limits.
The Sumy Regional Military Administration posted warnings to seek shelter on Telegram.
“Sumy is under attack by enemy UAVs. The Defense Forces are working. The consequences of the attacks are being clarified,” said the Head of the Administration, Oleh Hryhorov.
“The threat continues – stay in safe places,” the post added.
According to officials, firefighting teams are operating in the city.
