A bust of Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov in the city of Kharkiv, which was toppled by a group of activists on June 2, has been re-installed.
“As I promised – it has been put back today,” Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes wrote on Facebook on July 11, sharing several pictures of the restored bust.
As was reported, a group of activists who were protesting against a congress of the Trust the Deeds Party on June 2 toppled the bust, which was several meters away from the venue of the party congress.
The police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 296 (hooliganism) and Part 2 of Article 345 (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Kernes promised to put the bust back in the near future at the expense of MP Vitaly Khomutynnik’s Vidrodzhennia’s charity fund.
