Russian forces dropped five guided aerial bombs on Sumy in the early hours of Friday, striking civilian infrastructure in several parts of the city, according to regional authorities.
Sumy is a regional capital in northeastern Ukraine, located roughly 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Russian border, leaving it vulnerable to frequent Russian airstrikes.

Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that two of the bombs struck the city center.
“Preliminarily, five guided bomb strikes have been recorded,” Hryhorov wrote on social media. “Less than six hours had passed since the previous guided bomb strike on the outskirts of Sumy.”
One of the blasts damaged a multistory non-residential building, while hundreds of windows were shattered in surrounding buildings.
Emergency services remain deployed at the impact sites as inspections continue. Information about casualties and the full extent of the damage is still being established.
Earlier Thursday, seven people, including a 4-year-old child, were wounded in Russian attacks across the Sumy district.
