A Ukrainian military unit will participate in Belgium’s National Day parade for the first time on July 21, Defense Minister Theo Francken announced Thursday.

“For the first time, a Ukrainian unit will participate in the parade on July 21. Very proud of this,” Francken wrote on social media, concluding his announcement with: “Slava Ukraini. Never give up.”

A spokesperson for the minister said the contingent will consist of 23 Ukrainian service members who also represented their country during France’s Bastille Day parade in Paris  on July 14.

The Belgian appearance follows Ukraine’s prominent participation in France’s national parade, where Ukrainian troops marched down the Champs-Élysées alongside soldiers from countries supporting Kyiv.

Ukrainian pilots training in France also participated in the Bastille Day flyover aboard French Mirage 2000B fighter jets. President Zelensky watched the display alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders.

The Ukrainian contingent’s participation in Brussels represents another public demonstration of European military solidarity with Kyiv as Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine continues through its fifth year.
