No going back. Restart from a new common sense sustainable reality will occur. It won’t owe much to American theoreticians and politicians who unerringly end up with silly unsustainable half measures. Afghanistan and Iraq were cases of snatching defeat from an expensive victory that was inexpensively sustainable via the in-country overwatch postures eventually adopted.
There was never any need to take and hold territory.
Far better to operate via inexpensive proxies, as Iran demonstrates daily.
