The Swedish company IKEA, the world’s largest retailer of furniture and household goods, opened its first city-format store with an area of 5,000 square meters in Ukraine in the shopping and entertainment center Blockbuster Mall located at 36, Stepana Bandery Avenue in Kyiv.

“Today’s store opening underlines the desire of IKEA to develop its activities in Ukraine. Today, when each of us pays special attention to a comfortable and safe stay at home, we strive to inspire Ukrainians to improve their home space,” the press service said, citing Market Leader of IKEA in Ukraine Florian Mellet.

There are about 2,000 items of goods available in the store, another 3,000 items of large-sized products are available on the website of the online store. In addition, the outlet in the Blockbuster Mall also includes an online order pickup point and a parcel machine.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported that visitors are allowed to the store after registration by phone number through a QR code and receiving an SMS message confirmation. After receiving the code in the message, one can enter the store within 15 minutes.

The company is taking strict security measures – it is allowed to be only in masks in the store and no more than 500 people can be inside at the same time, the company said in the press release. In addition, temperature screening of visitors and disinfection of premises are carried out on the territory of the store.

The Kyiv office of Baker McKenzie was engaged in legal support of the opening of the bricks-and-mortar IKEA store in Kyiv, its press service reported.
