Emergency workers sifted through the rubble of a residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi District on Friday afternoon, July 4, following one of the largest aerial assaults of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
The overnight strike, involving some 550 drones and missiles, came just hours after a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin – and coincided with Independence Day in the US.

The attack left at least 23 people injured in the capital, with damage reported across multiple regions, including Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Kyiv. Ukrainian officials described the scale and timing of the assault as deliberate and provocative.
“This was one of the largest air strikes – demonstratively significant and cynical,” President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Telegram. “Russia once again shows it has no intention of stopping its war of terror.”
