Miley Cyrus, Mark Ronson release music video shot in Kyiv

Kyivans have finally found out why one of the city’s main bridges was closed to traffic around a month ago.

It turns out that Darnytskyi Bridge was shut down at the end of October for the filming of a new music video for a song by U.S. singer Miley Cyrus and British DJ Mark Ronson.

Released on Nov. 30, the video for the single “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” features a police chase. It has already hit over one million views on YouTube.

Cyrus, 26, first became famous as a teenager for her role in a television series, and continued her career as a singer, scoring hits like “Wrecking Ball,” “We Can’t Stop” and “Malibu.”

The Grammy-award winning DJ Ronson, 43, rose to fame for his work with chart-topping celebrities like Amy Winehouse, Adele and Bruno Mars. This is his first collaboration with Cyrus.

After the local authorities shut down the bridge for the filming, fans of Cyrus posted videos of her walking around the set on Darnytskyi Bridge in a shiny silver dress.

The video for “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” opens with a short scene featuring a little girl playing with bullets and proceeds to a beautiful sunlit shot of Kyiv’s Darnytskyi Bridge, which crosses the River Dnipro running through the city.

Although the video depicts Kyiv city landscapes, the story is actually set in the United States, as the road signs and car license plates suggest.

The video focuses on Miley Cyrus’s car chase, as the police follow her and media cover the celebrity story with headlines like “Miley’s Wild Ride.”

The singer passes a strip club, where some priests are hanging out, a shooting range, where children shoot guns at the targets made in the form of child silhouettes, and a store, where people are fighting for products on what appears to be Black Friday. Despite all the outrageous happening going on around them, the police and the media ignore them and continue to chase after the singer.

“Nothing gon’ save us now,” the musician sings, as she continues to drive along.

Ukrainian service production company Limelite assisted in the filming of the video. The company also participated in the filming of an advertisement for Google and a music video for Dutch DJ Martin Garrix.

The head of production Albert Zurashvili says that the filming in Kyiv took four days and his company’s cooperation with Miley Cyrus was one of the best works involving celebrities that they have ever had.

“She (Miley Cyrus) is one of the most unpretentious celebrities that we worked with,” Zurashvili told the Kyiv Post.

He says that the management of the singer told him they were satisfied with Limelite’s service and impressed by Kyiv.

And the production service is happy with the final video, too.

“We are very satisfied with the results,” Zurashvili said. “We are proud of this work.”

The “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” video joins the list of many works shot in Kyiv recently, with the city becoming a popular destination for filming over the last couple of years.

Earlier, a music video for the song “Lonely Together” by Swedish DJ Avicii and British singer Rita Ora, which hit over 118 million views, was shot in Kyiv.

The U.S. hip-hop duo Twenty One Pilots filmed a video for their hit “Nico And The Niners” in Kyiv as well. Released in July, the video now has over 33 million views.
