The United States is seriously considering declaring Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. This was stated by the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, in an interview with Radio Liberty, Ukrinform reports.

The issue requires careful analysis in accordance with American laws, the ambassador said, adding that the U.S. will continue to hold Russia accountable for its actions in Ukraine.

Brink noted that, together with partners and allies from around the world, the United States has imposed sanctions, “unprecedented” in their scope and depth, and will continue to do so in the future. She emphasized that Russia was cut off from financing by international financial institutions, barred from using frozen funds of its Central Bank to pay off public debt.

Washington uses all available means that would be applied to any country that is a sponsor of terrorism, according to the ambassador. However, the issue of announcing such designation is also taken seriously.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, supported Ukraine’s appeal to Congress to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, and called Putin a coward.
