Russian troops in occupied Crimea are ramping up defenses in anticipation of a large drone attack, ATESH partisan movement reported on Sunday, May 25.

ATESH agents carried out surveillance at an air defense base in occupied Sevastopol. They observed increased movement of mobile firing units, equipment checks, ammo deliveries, and tighter security measures.

These activities suggest Russia is preparing for another wave of Ukrainian drone strikes. The country has already faced several large UAV attacks deep inside its territory.

The partisans said they updated Ukraine’s military with fresh intelligence on Russian operations, including key activity at a sensitive military site. They declined to reveal full details, hinting at a future “unpleasant surprise” for Russian forces.

ATESH operatives also found vulnerabilities in the defenses around Balaklava Bay in Crimea. Elsewhere, in the occupied Kherson region, Russian forces are reportedly turning seized buildings into military warehouses.

Last week, on May 16, explosions rocked several areas across occupied Crimea. ATESH reported that strikes hit near the settlement of Perevalne in southern Crimea. The targets included the base of the 126th Separate Guards Coastal Defense Brigade and the 8th Separate Artillery Regiment—both part of Russia’s military unit 12676.

ATESH claimed there were Russian soldiers killed in the strike, saying, “There is information about dead soldiers who were on duty at the warehouse.”

Russian-installed authorities are now granted the power to restrict freedom of movement, halt the operations of enterprises, and carry out forced evacuations.

According to the media outlet Crimea.Realii, the targeted base stores military equipment, weapons, and possibly fuel. This same base had been attacked before – on March 17 and Aug. 25, 2023.

Ukrainian partisans continue gathering intelligence behind enemy lines to aid the country’s defense efforts.
