Russian forces launched a widespread aerial assault overnight on multiple regions in Ukraine, resulting in injuries, fires, and significant damage, while Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted dozens of incoming drones.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, three people – including two 13-year-old girls – were wounded in Russian drone strikes, according to Serhiy Lysak, head of the regional military administration.

“Defenders shot down 10 drones,” Lysak said in a Telegram post, “but some managed to hit two districts. The three injured were hospitalized, with the girls in moderate condition and a 51-year-old man in serious condition.”

The strikes caused fires that destroyed three houses, two garages, four outbuildings, and a forest area. Seven cars were destroyed and four others damaged. A fire also damaged infrastructure in the Kryvyi Rih district.

In Nikopol district, Russian forces targeted the Nikopol, Pokrovska, and Marhanets communities with FPV drones and artillery strikes. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Further north, a major fire erupted at a civil infrastructure facility in Sumy following a Russian drone strike, the State Emergency Service said.

The attack partially destroyed a non-residential building, igniting a large fire inside and on the roof. Firefighters battled the blaze from multiple directions, including elevated positions using specialized equipment.

Kyiv Accuses Italy of Blocking the Return of Evacuated Ukrainian Children

Four years after being evacuated to Italy for safety following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, dozens of Ukrainian children are caught in a legal battle preventing their return home. Applying protections for unaccompanied minors, Italian courts have assigned the children refugee status and new local guardians – and in some cases, approved adoptions. Ukrainian officials, concerned about a growing demographic crisis, accuse Rome of refusing cooperation and blocking welfare checks, with Ukraine’s ombudsman likening the situation to Moscow’s illegal deportations.

The overnight assault included four Russian S-300/400 surface-to-air missiles and 136 Shahed attack drones, along with numerous drone imitators of various types, the Ukrainian Air Forces reported.

By early morning, Ukraine’s air defense units had shot down 61 enemy drones across the northern, eastern, and central parts of the country. Another 47 drone imitators were either lost or suppressed by electronic warfare systems.

The strikes impacted 10 locations, with drone debris falling in four areas. Ukrainian forces employed a coordinated defense involving aviation, missile troops, electronic warfare units, drone operators, and mobile fire teams to repel the attack.
