“The G7 is closely following today’s developments at NABU, particularly the investigation into several NABU employees suspected of crimes. We met with NABU today, we have serious concerns and intend to discuss these developments with government leadership.”
The G7 representatives also stated that they support “transparency, independent institutions, and good governance” in Ukraine, “as well as the systemic fight against corruption.”
On July 21, Ukraine witnessed wide-ranging searches by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) targeting NABU detectives. Simultaneously, several NABU detectives were served with suspicion notices by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) relating to cases dating back several years. Several activists, journalists, and experts have categorized this as an assault on Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions in Ukraine, against the backdrop of NABU’s prosecution of a former government minister – Oleksiy Chernyshov.
