The Foreign Ministry on Monday took issue with US comedian, actor and director Woody Allen’s appearance via live stream at the Moscow International Film Week.

On the video link in front of a crowded theater audience, Allen was interviewed by Russian director Fyodor Bondarchuk, who happens to be a big-time booster of Kremlin strongman Vladimir Putin. The maker of “To Rome With Love” and “Midnight in Paris told him he would love to make a movie in Russia if he had the chance.

“I’m someone who has always enjoyed Russian cinema,” Allen told the famous director and the crowd watching the “Legends of World Cinema” segment.

Ukraine’s top diplomats were appalled by the comments and the scandal-prone American’s participation.

“We strongly condemn Woody Allen’s decision to bless Moscow’s bloody festival with his address,” the Foreign Ministry wrote on Facebook.

“Culture must never be used to whitewash crimes or serve as a propaganda tool,” it wrote.

Most Western movie stars have cut all association with Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

But Allen largely has been blacklisted in Hollywood ever since he was accused of sexually molesting his adopted daughter, Dylan, when she was seven. Allen claims the allegations were fabricated by his ex-partner Mia Farrow, Dylan’s adoptive mother.

Ukraine’s Refinery Campaign Forces Fuel Limits in Moscow

A growing fuel shortage in Russia has reached the Moscow region, where some gas stations have begun limiting fuel sales. Gas stations in Novaya Moskva have begun limiting gasoline sales to 60 liters (16 gallons) and diesel fuel sales to 100 liters (26 gallons) per customer. The shortages come as Ukraine continues a sustained campaign against Russian oil infrastructure, striking refineries, pipelines, and fuel depots.

After the scandal broke, he spent more time making movies in Europe.
