President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with US President Donald Trump, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff on Wednesday evening
US and Ukrainian delegations are set to meet in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday for bilateral talks. A further round of trilateral peace negotiations among the US, Ukraine, and Russia are expected to take place in early March.

Writing on Telegram, Zelensky confirmed that he had spoken to his US counterpart.
“Our teams are working hard now, and I thanked them for all the efforts and such involvement in the negotiations, in the work to end the war,” he added.
Zelensky also praised the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a NATO mechanism that allows Ukraine’s allies to purchase US weapons for its defense. The program was introduced to fill the shortfall left after Trump was re-elected and ended US military aid to Ukraine last year.
“We really appreciate the PURL program,” the Zelensky said. “This winter is the most difficult for Ukraine, but the missiles for air defense systems that we can purchase from the United States are very helpful in overcoming all these challenges and protecting lives.”
The two presidents also discussed the issues that will be under discussion at Thursday’s bilateral talks in Geneva, Zelensky said, as well as plans for trilateral talks to be held in March.

“We expect that it will provide an opportunity to move on to negotiations at the leadership level,” Zelensky added. “President Trump supports this sequence of steps. Only in this way can all the complex and sensitive issues be resolved and the war finally ended.”
Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council will represent Ukraine at Thursday’s talks, while Kushner and Witkoff will lead the US delegation.
