Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and now the country’s deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, mocked European leaders and told EU countries to “shut up” after a Russian drone struck a residential building in Romania on Friday, May 29.
Medvedev is known for his increasingly inflammatory wartime rhetoric, including over a dozen threats to nuke Europe since 2022.

In a Telegram post published on Friday, May 29, Medvedev mocked what he described as European outrage over a drone that crashed into an apartment building in the Romanian city of Galați.
“The Euro-impotents are throwing a fit over a drone hitting some residential building in Romania,” Medvedev wrote.
While acknowledging that the origin of the drone should be established, Medvedev argued that European countries had no right to complain because they support Ukraine militarily.
“European nations are direct participants in the war against Russia,” he claimed without providing evidence.
The remarks echoed long-standing Russian claims that the country is at war with NATO due to the bloc’s support for Kyiv’s defense against Moscow’s invasion. In April, Russia also threatened to hit drone companies in Europe.
Medvedev on Friday accused European leaders of bearing responsibility for attacks inside Russia and suggested similar incidents affecting EU countries could happen again.

“So they’d better get used to it. This won’t be the last time,” he wrote.
He also warned that citizens of EU countries “shouldn’t be going to sleep expecting peaceful nights,” before ending the post with a crude instruction for European governments to “shut your piehole.”
Medvedev, who serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has become one of the Kremlin’s most outspoken and combative voices since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
His social media posts frequently contain threats against Western countries, nuclear rhetoric and personal insults directed at European and US leaders.
The comments came hours after Romanian President Nicușor Dan announced the closure of Russia’s Consulate General in Constanta and declared Russia’s consul general persona non grata following the drone incident.
Romania blames Russia for drone strike
Romanian authorities said a Russian Geran-2 drone crossed into Romanian airspace during an overnight attack on Ukraine before crashing into a residential building in Galati, injuring two people.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed the alliance’s “full solidarity” with Romania, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s war had “crossed yet another line.”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also condemned the incident, saying it demonstrated that Russia’s aggression poses a threat to the entire Black Sea region and Europe.
Romanian officials described the strike as the most serious security incident on Romanian territory since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
