A Russian combined drone and missile attack partially destroyed a residential building and sparked a fire in a high-rise in Kyiv in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving at least five people injured, according to city officials.
The latest damage was reported hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Ukrainian intelligence had detected signs of an imminent massive Russian strike.

Residential areas hit
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said a residential building was destroyed in the Shevchenkivskyi district as a result of the Russian attack.
“In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a residential building was destroyed as a result of the enemy attack. In the Holosiivskyi district, there is a fire in a high-rise building,” Tkachenko reported.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later said that, according to preliminary information, five people were injured in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
“Medics are working at the scene,” Klitschko said.
Emergency crews were deployed to the affected areas as officials continued to assess the full scale of the destruction.
Drone and missile threat
The reports followed hours of explosions across Kyiv as Russian drones entered the capital from several directions and air defense units engaged targets on the approaches to the city.
Ukrainian authorities later warned of a ballistic missile threat from the north and repeatedly urged residents to remain in shelters.
Zelensky Warns of Massive Russian Overnight Strike on Ukraine
Earlier in the night, officials reported falling drone debris in several areas of the capital, including the Desnianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, where fires were recorded.
Zelensky warned of major attack
The overnight assault came shortly after Zelensky warned that Russia was preparing another large-scale strike against Ukraine.
Speaking during a visit to Ireland on Tuesday, the Ukrainian leader urged citizens to take air raid alerts seriously and use shelters.
“We know that [Vladimir] Putin has been preparing a massive strike on Ukraine for some time now. Tonight, this is exactly the threat we face,” Zelensky said.
The president said Ukrainian intelligence had identified signs of an imminent attack and later said he would return to Ukraine immediately after the briefing.
First responders and municipal crews continued working in the affected districts early Wednesday as officials said the full extent of the damage and casualties was still being clarified.
