Russian Drone Attack Hits Gas Station in Sumy, Injuring 4

A Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hit a gas station in the Zarichnyi district of Sumy on the morning of Friday, July 3.

Serhii Kryvosheienko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration, reported that the strike injured four gas station employees.

“According to preliminary data, there are four casualties resulting from the strike by a Russian jet-powered UAV on a gas station in the Zarichnyi district of Sumy, which occurred early in the morning,” Kryvosheienko stated. “These are gas station workers; they are currently in medical facilities in serious condition.”

The attack caused a fire that damaged the facility’s infrastructure. Emergency crews are operating at the site to manage the aftermath.

Sumy Region Casualties

This incident followed an earlier attack in the Romny community of the northern Sumy region, where a Russian drone hit a multi-story residential building.

Four people died in the attack. The fatalities included two women aged 39 and 26, a 76-year-old man, and a 1-year-old girl. Three men sustained injuries and are receiving medical assistance.

Russian attacks also targeted the Dnipropetrovsk region. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) reported that strikes across the region resulted in one death and 13 injuries.

In the city of Kryvyi Rih, an overnight attack injured seven people. Two women, aged 45 and 68, were hospitalized in moderate condition. Authorities reported damage to nine multi-apartment residential buildings, educational facilities, a commercial enterprise, a store, garages, and 10 vehicles. Two buildings temporarily lost their gas supply.

On Friday morning, Russian forces attacked a gas station in the Sofiyivka community of the Kryvyi Rih district, causing a fire. The DSNS reported one fatality and three injuries from this attack.

In the Synelnykove district, attacks in the Shakhtarske community injured three people and damaged a vehicle. Additional attacks damaged a gas station and vehicles in the Kamianske district, as well as a residential building and outbuildings in the Nikopol district.

Air defense intercepts

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that between the evening of July 2 and the morning of July 3, Russian forces launched 105 attack drones – including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy types – from Kursk, Orel, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Millerovo, and occupied Donetsk. Two Kh-59/69 air-launched guided missiles were launched from over the occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region.

Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted 82 drones and one Kh-59/69 missile. The Air Force recorded that 21 drones and one missile struck 16 locations, with debris falling in five other areas.

Kyiv, July 2 assault

These attacks occurred as Kyiv observed an official day of mourning following an attack on July 2.

During that barrage, a nine-story residential building in the capital’s Darnytskyi district was struck, destroying 64 apartments and resulting in at least four fatalities at that location. Rescue teams extricated 17 residents, pulling seven alive from the debris.

Overall, the July 2 assault across Kyiv resulted in at least 30 deaths and 99 injuries.

Nationwide, on July 2, Russia launched 74 missiles and 496 attack drones, hitting over 130 sites across Kyiv, including 60 residential buildings, an ambulance station, a research institute, and a hotel.
