Russian drone strikes on the Kharkiv region killed two civilians and injured several others on Sunday, July 5, adding to a weekend of intense nationwide bombardments that targeted residential areas and commercial infrastructure across multiple Ukrainian cities.

According to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) struck the town of Bohodukhiv, located northwest of Kharkiv.

“As a result of the strike, two men were killed,” Syniehubov reported on Telegram. He added that a 26-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction.

The attack caused damage to local infrastructure, including a supermarket, a furniture store, and two vehicles. Emergency response teams deployed to the impact site to conduct recovery operations.

In a separate attack, Russian forces targeted the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv city with a drone. Syniehubov confirmed that at least four people were injured in the strike.

Weekend of heavy bombardments

The fatal strikes in the Kharkiv region followed a wave of Russian aerial attacks launched across Ukraine on Saturday evening, July 4, u drones and guided aerial bombs.

In the eastern Donetsk region, Russian forces dropped a FAB-250 guided aerial bomb equipped with a unified gliding and correction module (UMPK) on a supermarket in the center of Kramatorsk on Saturday.

The strike injured at least five civilians, including an 11-year-old boy. The other victims include three women aged 36, 38, and 62, and a 56-year-old man. The blast ignited a massive fire covering 1,300 square meters, which crews from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) managed to extinguish by late evening.

The regional attacks culminated in a large-scale nationwide aerial assault overnight into Sunday, July 5. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that defense forces successfully intercepted or suppressed 115 Russian aerial targets during the massive overnight barrage.
