Russian forces launched a series of strikes across southern and central Ukraine on Friday, July 17, targeting port facilities, humanitarian infrastructure, and civilian transport.

Odesa port strike

On Friday evening, Russian forces executed a missile strike on port infrastructure in the Odesa region. Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper reported that a civilian vessel flying the flag of the Marshall Islands was damaged in the attack.

The strike damaged the ship’s superstructure and ignited a fire. The 17-member crew was evacuated from the vessel. Four crew members sustained injuries and received medical assistance on site without requiring hospitalization.

Marhanets bus attack

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces struck a bus belonging to an agricultural company with an FPV drone in the city of Marhanets.

Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Head Oleksandr Hanzha stated that the bus was transporting employees home from work at the time of the attack. A 48-year-old man was killed at the scene. Eight other individuals, including two women and six men, sustained injuries and were subsequently hospitalized.

Assault on UN warehouse in Dnipro

A humanitarian warehouse operated by the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in the city of Dnipro was targeted by Russian drones four times within a 24-hour period on Friday.

The WFP press service reported that no staff members were injured, but the facility sustained structural damage. Richard Ragan, the WFP representative in Ukraine, stated that this marks the seventh instance in three months where clearly marked WFP facilities or vehicles have been struck by drones.

Russia’s earlier strikes

These incidents follow a series of earlier strikes on July 17 across the Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions that resulted in one civilian death and at least 21 injuries, including eight children.

In the Kharkiv region, a missile strike on the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv city killed a 40-year-old man and injured nine others, including two children. The strike damaged an educational institution, an administrative building, and commercial infrastructure. In Izium, guided aerial bombs struck a residential area, injuring eight people, among them a 16-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy.

Separately, in the Chernihiv region, an attack drone struck a residential building in Novhorod-Siverskyi, injuring a family of five, including three children.
