Passenger traffic exiting Ukraine via the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint towards Poland will be affected due to ongoing roadwork on the Polish side, Ukrainian officials said.

The checkpoint, located approximately 76 kilometers (47 miles) west of Lviv, is the key crossing on the way to the Polish cities of Przemysl and Kraków.

Ukraine’s State Border Service said at around 2:37 p.m. on Friday that roadwork is expected to take approximately five hours, and that passenger traffic exiting Ukraine would be limited to the two bus lanes for its duration.

“On the Polish side, the laying of a new asphalt surface is underway, which, according to forecasts, will take approximately 5 hours. In this regard, a slowdown in the clearance procedures for passenger vehicles is expected,” the update says.

The border service said there are also ongoing “large-scale reconstruction” at the Ukrainian checkpoint, advising travelers to opt for other border crossings with Poland if possible.

Alternative checkpoints in the Lviv region include the Rava-Ruska-Khrebenne, Smilnytsia-Krostsenko, Uhryniv-Dołhobyczow, Nyzhankovychi-Malkhovitse and Hrushiv-Budomierz checkpoints.

The estimated waiting time at the checkpoints is available on Ukraine’s State Customs Service’s website.

Alternatively, travelers can also exit Ukraine using checkpoints in other regions bordering Poland, such as the Ustyluh-Zosin checkpoint in Ukraine’s Volyn region.
