Overnight on July 14 / 15, explosions were reported in Russia’s Lipetsk and Voronezh regions following Ukrainian drone attacks. Russian Telegram channels said one likely target was once again the Energia plant in the city of Yelets, which produces batteries for aerial bombs and missiles used by the Russian army. Astra reported that a fire broke out near the facility after the strike, and thick smoke was observed over the plant.
The Lipetsk region is approximately 250 kilometers (about 155 miles) from the nearest border with Ukraine.

According to pro-Kremlin media, two explosions were heard in Yelets in the Lipetsk region, sometime after 4 am that was put down to “air defense systems were working against drones.” Residents of the city reported hearing blasts in various districts of the city, with windows shaking from the shockwaves.
Authorities declared a “drone attack threat” alert in the region but did not provide information about casualties or damage.
According to the Telegram channel Exilenova+, the strike in Yelets hit the joint-stock company Energia. This enterprise specializes in the development and production of autonomous power sources for a wide range of equipment – including household, industrial and specialized uses.
These include aviation, river and sea vessels, radio equipment, household electronics and appliances, medical devices, toys and games, emergency communication and signaling systems on water, in the air, and on land, fire suppression systems, and other multi-purpose equipment. The plant also manufactures batteries for the Iskander-M ballistic missile system, sea-launched cruise missiles, and a range of universal batteries for specialized machinery.
Russia May Provoke Baltics, Poland as Ukraine Strikes Deep
Russian media had previously boasted that the company consistently holds leading positions in the development and production of chemically generated power sources and other non-core products both for domestic and foreign markets.
The Lipetsk plant was previously targeted by drones on May 23 and July 3. The first strike caused a fire at the facility while operations at the plant were said to have been suspended indefinitely following the second strike.
In central Voronezh, several people were injured after a downed drone crashed onto a city street. One more person was wounded in the suburbs. The city also suffered damage to apartments in high-rise buildings, private houses on the outskirts, commercial properties, and vehicles.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that its air defense forces had destroyed 12 drones over the Voronezh region overnight.
At the time of publication, Kyiv’s defense forces had not commented on possible involvement in the attack
