Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, has arrested a Russian informant who was spying on Ukrainian military trains in central Ukraine. The 18-year-old suspect, from Kremenchuk district, had installed a hidden camera on a local rail line.
The device, equipped with a battery and remote access, allowed Russian operatives to track the movement of military cargo trains and estimate the number of armored vehicles heading to the front.

Authorities said he also tried to locate air defense systems in the region and was instructed to send photos with geolocation data to his handlers.
The suspect came to the attention of Russian intelligence through Telegram channels offering “easy money,” according to the SBU. Officers seized his phone and safely removed the spy equipment before making the arrest.
He has been charged under Ukraine’s criminal code for unauthorized sharing of information about military locations during martial law. The suspect is in custody without bail and could face up to eight years in prison.
The investigation was carried out by SBU officers in the Poltava region under the guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
