President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv received additional Patriot air defense systems from Germany on Sunday.
In an X update, Zelensky thanked Berlin, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and other allies for the delivery before noting that Ukraine needs more air defense to defend the skies effectively.

“Our agreements have been fulfilled. More Patriots are now in Ukraine and being put into operation,” Zelensky said.
“Of course, more systems are needed to protect key infrastructure sites and our cities across the entire territory of Ukraine, and we will continue working to obtain them,” he added.
In September, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Berlin planned to send two more Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine by the end of 2025 with help from Norway.
It is unclear if the two systems Pistorius referred to are the same as the ones he pledged in August.
Berlin was initially hesitant to supply the systems, saying it only had six systems remaining as of July. However, Pistorius said in August that two more would be delivered after reaching an agreement with the US for Germany to become the “first country” to receive the replacements for the two additional systems pledged to Kyiv.
On Sunday, Zelensky said Kyiv will work with allies and manufacturers directly to obtain more systems and missiles, adding that Kyiv will present a plan to its allies next week during a meeting on what is needed.

As for air defense as a whole, Zelensky said it is a “multiple component” system before adding that work is underway to bolster its air fleet with fighter aircraft and associated weapons, as well as interceptor drones, which Zelensky said are a current priority for Ukraine.
