Ukraine Hits Key Russian Oil Facility Producing Urals Crude, Sparks Major Fire – Source

Ukraine’s forces struck a key Russian oil facility involved in forming the country’s main export blend, according to a Kyiv Post source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), in what appears to be part of a broader effort to disrupt Moscow’s energy revenues.

Drones operated by the SBU Alpha special operations unit caused a large fire overnight at the Samara linear production and dispatch station in Russia’s Samara region, the source said. The facility blends different types of crude oil to produce Urals, Russia’s primary export grade.

Preliminary information indicates that five oil storage tanks, each with a capacity of about 20,000 cubic meters, were damaged in the strike, the source added.

The Samara station is a critical node in Russia’s oil logistics system, handling flows from multiple fields and preparing them for export markets.

A source familiar with the operation said targeting such infrastructure directly affects Russia’s ability to maintain export volumes.

“Strikes on these key hubs reduce Russia’s capacity to form export oil batches and meet contractual obligations,” the source said. “It disrupts the balance of raw materials, increases logistics and storage costs, and creates risks of supply interruptions.”

The source added that the impact could translate into reduced revenues for Moscow, limiting funds available for its war against Ukraine.
