Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) said on Tuesday, April 28, that its drone units struck a Russian Iskander missile base in occupied Crimea overnight.

According to the SSO, the target was a concealed storage site for operational-tactical missile systems located at a former missile base near the settlement of Ovrazhky, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) east of Simferopol.

The military said the missiles stationed there could reach frontline areas or rear Ukrainian cities within minutes.

Members of Ukraine’s underground resistance movement had repeatedly recorded missile launches from the location, the statement added.

Ukraine’s military said the strike was part of ongoing efforts to degrade Russia’s combat capabilities through asymmetric operations aimed at weakening its ability to wage war.

The Iskander missile system is a Russian short-range ballistic missile system capable of striking targets at distances of up to 500 kilometers (311 miles). It is designed for high-precision attacks and can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads. The system is difficult to intercept due to its speed and ability to maneuver during flight, and has been widely used by Russia to target Ukrainian military positions and infrastructure since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Earlier, on April 21-22, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a Russian naval command and traffic control center in occupied Crimea, along with multiple military targets across Russia and occupied territories. One of the key targets was the Streletsky command center of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol.
