5 Wounded as Russia Strikes Dnipropetrovsk Region

Russian armed forces wounded five people in the Dnipropetrovsk region, striking two districts nearly 40 times with drones and artillery.

The Nikopol district bore the brunt of the attacks, with the Nikopol, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka, and Pokrovske communities coming under fire. The head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Hanzha, confirmed the strikes on his Telegram channel.

According to Hanzha, a 65-year-old man was left in serious condition, while two other men, aged 59 and 63, were hospitalized with injuries of moderate severity. Additionally, two more men, aged 59 and 56, are being treated on an outpatient basis.

In the Synelnykove district, the Pokrovske community was struck, sparking fires and damaging a private home. No casualties were reported from the attack.

Part of a broader pattern of strikes

The attack came during a broader wave of Russian strikes across Ukraine overnight into July 21, when Russian forces launched 58 attack drones nationwide, with Ukraine’s air defenses downing or suppressing 46 of them.

Separately, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that Russian forces struck rescuers while they were extinguishing a fire in a residential building in the Nikopol district, wounding three firefighters.

The Dnipropetrovsk region, and Nikopol in particular, has continued to face near-daily Russian bombardment since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, with attack counts frequently reaching 40 to 70 strikes in a single day.

Although Russia has recently increased strikes on urban centers such as Kyiv, frontline districts remain among the heaviest-hit areas, with strikes frequently targeting critical power infrastructure, as well as civilian infrastructure.

Last week, the United Nation’s (UN) Human Rights Monitoring Mission (HRMMU) in Ukraine deemed June 2026 as the deadliest month since the early phases of the war, recording 293 civilians killed and 1,990 injured.

According to HRMMU, Zaporizhzhia had 23 people killed and 229 injured in June, while Kherson saw 18 killed and 236 injured, and Dnipro reported 25 killed and 77 injured. These figures placed the three regions well above the rest of the country, reflecting their sustained exposure to shelling, drone strikes and aerial bombardment near the contact line.
