Bryzhynskyi confirmed the two fatalities and noted that one of the four injured individuals is currently in critical condition.
Emergency services have been deployed to the site, and the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Nationwide barrage continues
The attack on Chernihiv followed a series of daytime and overnight strikes across Ukraine that caused further casualties and infrastructure damage.
Earlier on the afternoon of July 26, Russian forces launched guided aerial bombs at the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, killing one person and injuring six others.
The guided bombs struck a gas station and warehouse facilities, destroying a vehicle. The blast wave and falling debris also damaged a multi-story residential building and a nearby educational institution. The prosecutor’s office has initiated a pre-trial investigation into the incident under the classification of a war crime resulting in death.
These daytime attacks followed a massive overnight drone and missile barrage.
In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, the casualty toll from a drone strike on a residential neighborhood rose to one confirmed fatality and 14 injured individuals, including two children. Earlier on Sunday morning, a separate fiber-optic FPV drone struck a bakery delivery truck in the city’s Shevchenkivskyi district, injuring the 43-year-old driver.

In the central city of Kryvyi Rih, emergency services continued operations to extinguish a large fire at a construction hypermarket caused by a targeted strike.
In Kyiv, a ballistic missile strike injured three people in the Solomianskyi district. Debris and strikes caused fires across the Desnianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Solomianskyi districts, damaging a warehouse, multiple vehicles, an abandoned structure, and the upper floors of an 18-story residential building.
The nationwide aerial bombardment coincided with a renewed assault on civilian maritime infrastructure in the Black Sea.
On the evening of July 25, Russian forces launched a double drone strike against a civilian cargo ship sailing under the flag of Palau as it departed a port in the Odesa region transporting approximately 2,800 tons of corn to Greece.
Seven crew members and a Ukrainian pilot were rescued, while a search and rescue operation remains ongoing for two sailors who went missing after the initial explosion.
