PUBLIC OPINION: Is Elon Musk a Russian Sympathizer or Neutral Businessman?

Elon Musk is now facing a US Senate probe for hindering a 2022 Ukrainian attack on Crimea leading to accusations that Musk is sympathetic of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Kyiv Post correspondents are still exploring public opinion on the most high-profile questions. This time, they took to the streets of New York, London and Kyiv to gather firsthand perspectives on another contentious issue: The world richest man and Space X founder Elon Musk is now facing a US Senate probe for hindering a 2022 Ukrainian attack on Crimea leading to accusations that Musk is sympathetic of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Respondents had a range of opinions on Musk, some expressing admiration for the man's business acumen, some doubting that he's against Ukraine, others calling him an opportunist, and others maintaining that he's a businessman without a dog in the race. What do you think?

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and he has it. One man should not control space. satellite networks and twitter. I think he is in Putin’s pocket.

@Will Ivanhoe, I agree. For what should be an extremely busy business man, he spends too much time siding with defacto dictators actively trying to destabilize allied democracies. He leverages our freedom of speech liberties seemingly only to sow public dissent. Both Trump and Musk ironically keep praising authoritarian regimes which do not allow the freedom of expression they are allowed in the democracies they speak ill of.

As with Trump, it would be interesting to follow / publish the trail of funding which bailed them both out from the normally fatal business mistakes they have made in their past.

Comrade Musk. Another money-man who thinks because of this, he some how holds the "key" for the rest of us. Obey your Tsarist master but know this: there may well be a Ukrainian bullet with your name on it. Dasvidaniya cyka

Musk is a sad little man who thinks he owns the world, but he is just a little man.... Putin has far more money than Musk. Putin is the richest person in the world by a long shot... Good to investigate this guy... But trump is far more a Russian agent than Musk... perhaps they will complete to show who is best friend of Putin?

Musk, like many European leaders, fell hook line and sinker for Putin’s nuclear war bluster. That bought Putin a lot of time.
Upon reflection, it’s clear that nuclear war would ensure defeat tether than help achieve any of the objectives Putin publicised well before he initiated his unjustifiable criminal invasion of Ukraine.
The concept behind having nuclear weapons is merely to ensure their first use is deterred by assured and unthinkable consequences, considering Plutonium has a half life exceeding 239,000 years, which renders any expected win permanently irrelevant.
That reality forever holds for anyone who is not certifiably insane.
Putin is many things, but definitely not insane.
Musk was entirely unable to see through Putin’s nuclear bluster.
Or such a high IQ after all.

Elon Musk is a guy that thinks he is smarter than anybody else. His field of expertise is NOT foreign policy. It matters not how smart he is or what he feared. What does matter is if he did actually interfere in a Ukrainian planned attack on Russia and he acted to stop that then he is so arrogant that he thinks he has a right to control the actions of the Ukrainian military in the war of aggression started by Putin. You can go on and on about his fear of war but in the end we can not allow any person regardless how smart or wealthy to interfere in the war in Ukraine in a way to help Russia. This is why he will be investigated and ultimately stopped from acting against Ukraine in the future. He maybe wealthy but no non government, not elected to any office, person to act against the best interests of the USA, NATO, or Ukraine. No excuse can justify his actions if the reports are true. The investigation in congress will find out the facts.
