US War in Ukraine

Why a Russian Victory Would be Disastrous for the World

Why is America quitting on Ukraine?

Well-known American political commentator and Editor-at-Large of The Bulwark, Bill Kristol, has for decades advised US political leaders and his writings have a profound influence America's domestic and foreign policy debates. Kristol, who actively supports Ukraine in his writings and in his public appearances, makes the case as to why America quitting on Ukraine, now, would be disastrous not only for the US, but also for Europe, and would ultimately damage Israel. America, if it wishes to see peace and stability, cannot allow tyrants, like Vladimir Putin, to call the shots: America must lead from the front. He completed his Bachelors and PhD at Harvard.

Why should the ultimate effect on Israel be of any consideration in this? It is quite absurd to hear Ukrainian politicians and elites rant about some sort of a parallel between Ukraine, a country whose land is under assault, to Israel, a country formed on stolen land whose natives, the Palestinians, are forced to live in misery. Makes you wonder if they really care about justice or it is just another one side of their corrupt nature.

@Stanley,
I’m baffled by your pseudo-historical assertions. There was a Kingdom of Israel and a Kingdom of Judea ( i.e. of the Jews) 3000 years ago. The Torah, from which the Christian Old Testament is derived, was written more than 2800 years ago, in Hebrew. Jewish culture for 3000 years has been centred on Jerusalem. It has never deviated from that. Arabs arrived there less than 1500 years ago. Israel was the first country they conquered as they began to build an Islamic empire, but despite all the genocidal attempts since then, Jews, even forced into exile, remain the indigenous people of Israel.
No one could fail to feel sympathy for the present anguish of Palestinian Arabs. But they chose to commit themselves to destroying the tiny Jewish state. After freeing the Arabs from Turkish rule, Britain gave them a new kingdom of their own - Jordan - on 2/3 of the Mandate territory. The remaining third, west of the Jordan river, was supposed to be Israel’s. But the Arabs accepted Jordan, then demanded all the rest.

@Cedar
Stanley - You weep for 250,000 Arabs expelled or fled from Israel, but say nothing on behalf of the 750,000 Jews ethnically cleansed from Arab countries with no right of return or compensation? All the violence in the Middle East in the last century stems from the Muslim belief that it is a requirement for them to annihilate the Jews, as Mohammed did.
Even the concept of “the Palestinians”, meaning the Arabs of the region, is new. There was a call for pan-Arab independence as Greater Syria, not a separate state, until the USSR in the 1960s advised Arafat to re-brand his Jew-killing jihad as a fashionable national liberation movement. Please don’t claim the authority of history until you’ve actually learned some.

@Cedar,
Stanley - PS.

P.S. Mohsen (1936 – 25 July 1979) was a Palestinian leader of the Syria-controlled as-Sa'iqa faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) between 1971 and 1979.

“The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”
