Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary to the Russian president, said that the current dynamic in Russia-US relations is positive. At the same time, he cautioned against expecting “immediate results” from the negotiations between the two countries.

According to him, a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is being planned.

“This meeting will happen. It will take place at the appropriate time. It requires preparation,” he said in an interview with propagandist Pavel Zarubin, as reported by Russian media.

Peskov added that Putin’s recent meeting with US President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg is part of the preparation for a potential meeting between Putin and Trump. Commenting on the visit, Peskov also noted that there is a “positive dynamic” in the “US-Russia relations.”

He said that “reviving relations practically from scratch is a very difficult task” and requires “intense diplomatic and other efforts.”

“The entire process consists of small steps aimed at restoring even a minimal level of mutual trust and then strengthening that trust,” Peskov said.

Peskov also confirmed that the Kremlin and the White House are maintaining contact through intelligence channels and foreign ministries.

“The presidents receive the messages that are transmitted through these channels and have the opportunity to assess the real state of affairs and the actual positions in the negotiations. This all helps, but it’s clearly impossible to expect any immediate results. The problems are too complex and have been left unresolved for too long,” Peskov said.
