In the Russian city of Bryansk, during the night of April 17–18, Yevgeny Rytikov – a leading engineer and head of the design bureau at the Bryansk Electromechanical Plant – was killed when his car exploded. Rytikov was responsible for the development and modernization of electronic warfare (EW) systems for the Russian military, including forces operating on occupied Ukrainian territories.
According to Kyiv Post sources who requested anonymity, the car exploded when Rytikov and a colleague got inside. However, sources within Ukraine’s intelligence community said they “can neither confirm nor deny” the involvement of its special services in Rytikov’s assassination.

According to initial reports, the second person killed in the blast was most likely Rytikov’s deputy or assistant.
Rytikov was notably involved in the modernization of the Russian Krasukha electronic warfare system – one of its most advanced EW assets. The system was designed to jam airborne radars carried on strike aircraft, reconnaissance planes, and drones, including those of Western origin. The Krasukha system is being actively used by Russia in its war against Ukraine, according to RBC-Ukraine.
The source told Kyiv Post that although Rytikov was merely an engineer, he is still considered to have been a war criminal with his killing a fair and just punishment.
Moscow Hit by Ukrainian Drones for Second Day Running
Earlier on Friday Kyiv Post reported that Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, is believed to have died as a result of another car bomb explosion, a report that has not been officially confirmed.
The explosion occurred around 10:40 a.m. near Moskalik’s residence in Balashikha, a city just outside Moscow. Reports say the blast knocked the general several meters away as he walked past a parked Volkswagen Golf.
Video and photos posted on Russian media from the scene seem to confirm that the vehicle contained an improvised explosive device:
