Fighters of the Timur Special Unit of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) carried out a large-scale special operation in the Sumy sector, halting the enemy’s advance and inflicting significant losses on Russian forces. According to HUR, at least 334 Russian soldiers were eliminated, and more than 550 were wounded.

The Sumy region is located in northeastern Ukraine, bordering Russia to the east. In January 2025 Russia launched a cross-border offensive into the Sumy region to counter Ukraine’s August 2024 incursion into Russia’s neighboring Kursk Oblast.

Fighters from the Timur Special Unit “did not allow Russian forces to advance in the Sumy sector,” HUR’s press service reported on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 5. “During the special operation, the intelligence officers managed to enter the enemy’s rear, clear out enemy positions, and secure them.”

As a result of the operation, the supply of food and ammunition to the Russian group was disrupted.

Radio intercepts by Ukrainian intelligence indicate panic among Russian personnel – soldiers refused to go on the offensive, citing fabricated excuses, and refused to assault positions in the Timur Special Unit’s area of responsibility.

HUR has released a corresponding video. The footage shows close combat, the elimination of enemy forces by FPV drones, artillery strikes, and small arms engagements.

Russian Attack Destroys Gas Stations in Ukrainian Border City

The mayor of the border city of Trostianets called it a “difficult night” after the attack.

The operation involved the participation of the following units: Chimera, Junger, Stuhna, Siberian Battalion, Aratta, 1514, Paragon, Art Division, First Line, Raven Group and the 6th Special Operations Detachment.

Thanks to the coordinated actions of the intelligence forces, the enemy attack in the north was stopped, and their attempt to launch a new offensive was thwarted.

Although the Sumy sector accounted for 11 percent of all assault actions, Russian forces failed to occupy a single square kilometer last month, DeepState writes. This axis proved to be one of the most effective in terms of defense, as the enemy had to attack more frequently without achieving any results.
