Russian drones damaged a Nova Poshta sorting hub in northeastern Ukraine’s Sumy that was processing about 13,000 parcels, triggering a fire and damaging shipments.

According to the private postal operator on Wednesday, Russian forces launched two drone strikes against the facility. No employees were injured in the attack.

The strikes triggered a fire at the sorting hub, which was later extinguished by responders from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS).

The company said specialists are assessing damage to the facility and determining the condition of shipments stored inside the terminal at the time of the attack.

Nova Poshta said it would fully compensate customers for the declared value of parcels destroyed or damaged in the attack, advising them to monitor updates via the company’s mobile application and website.

Repeated strikes against Nova Poshta’s facilities

Nova Poshta’s logistics infrastructure has been a recurring target of Russian strikes since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022.

Earlier on Monday, a Russian attack on Kyiv destroyed Nova Poshta’s largest and most technologically advanced sorting terminal.

The facility, which featured automation by the Dutch automation giant Vanderlande and was the first of its kind in Ukraine, was completely leveled in the attack. No casualties were reported, and the company said it has already activated backup logistics to maintain operations.

Ukraine’s Defense Minister Orders Lie Detector Tests for Army Contractors

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov introduced mandatory polygraph tests for ministry officials and contractors; those who refused or failed were fired. He shifted defense procurement to competitive tenders, saving 16-20% on purchases (over $100M on one artillery shells contract), despite strong resistance from corrupt insiders and lobbyists. Fedorov is also auditing combat brigades and increasing salaries for front-line troops.

Nova Poshta facilities were also struck by three attacks between May and early June in Kramatorsk, Lymanka in the Odesa region, and Dnipro, causing varying degrees of damage without casualties.

The company has spent roughly Hr.400 million ($9.6 million) on security infrastructure since 2022, installing around 580 shelters of various types across its network, according to Forbes Ukraine.
