Russia targeted railway infrastructure in Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv regions overnight, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration Oleksiy Kuleba reported.

According to his Telegram post, the Ukrzaliznytsia depot in Sumy, which provides daily train connections across the region, was heavily damaged. The facility performs technical inspections and maintenance for passenger trains.

“A massive raid by Shahed drones destroyed most of the work premises, and the train depot serving the Sumy-Kyiv route was also damaged. Fortunately, workers were evacuated in advance, so there were no casualties,” Kuleba said.

Despite the attack, passengers waiting for the morning train to Kyiv were able to depart on schedule, as a replacement train from another region was quickly dispatched.

In Sumy, drones also struck a residential high-rise, setting five apartments and seven balconies ablaze. Twelve people, including four children, were injured and are receiving medical care.

Regional authorities reported that Russia launched 10 drones over the city within an hour, all targeting civilian infrastructure.

“There were hits on a nine-story apartment building and a two-story residential building in different districts,” the statement read.

The State Emergency Service (DSNS) said rescuers saved 12 residents from the burning high-rise. In the private sector, two commercial buildings caught fire, and a one-story residential block with five apartments was damaged by the blast wave.

Moscow Hints at Potential US-Russia Tunnel Deal

Putin’s financial envoy Kirill Dmitriev on Thursday said the US and Russia might sign an agreement to develop a tunnel connecting the two countries via the Bering Strait – but geography and existing logistics have cast doubt on the project’s practicality.

“The greatest destruction and large-scale fires occurred at an infrastructure site. All fires have now been extinguished,” emergency services reported.

According to the Sumy regional police, as of 8.20 a.m., the number of people injured in the shelling of the regional center has increased to 15.

In the Kharkiv region, railway infrastructure in Lozova was damaged, forcing trains to take alternative routes and causing delays.

Russian forces also shelled critical and civilian infrastructure in the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions overnight.

“These are targeted attacks on Ukrainian lives and the country’s transport arteries,” Kuleba said. “Restoration work is underway.”

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a fire broke out at a civilian enterprise in Dnipro after a Russian strike. The Shakhtarska and Pokrovska communities in the Synelnykove district were also hit, damaging infrastructure and a private home. No casualties were reported.

Since 7 p.m. on Oct. 30, Russian forces have launched one Iskander-M ballistic missile and about 145 Shahed and Geran strike drones, along with other types of UAVs, the Air Force said. Approximately 90 of them were Shaheds.

As of 9 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed one ballistic missile and 107 Russian strike drones in the north, south, and east of the country.

At least 36 attack drones were intercepted across 20 locations, the Air Force added.

“The attack is ongoing, with several enemy UAVs still in the airspace,” the report said.
