Russian forces launched a targeted drone strike against a Naftogaz Group oil and gas facility in Ukraine’s central Poltava region, Serhiy Koretskyi, CEO of the state-owned fuel and energy company, said on Friday. The attack caused extensive damage and ignited a fire at the site.
Russia has been shelling Naftogaz facilities since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine four years ago. In 2025, the total number of strikes on Naftogaz Group infrastructure was three times higher than during the previous three years combined.

“This is another targeted strike on our oil and gas infrastructure. In 2026, Russian troops attacked Naftogaz Group facilities more than 20 times,” Koretskyi said in a statement on Facebook.
Emergency workers are at the scene fighting to extinguish the fire and minimize the destruction caused by the drone strike.
Russia attacks Naftogaz Group facilities on a monthly basis, and has at times carried out strikes on several days in a row to maximize the damage. According to the Naftogaz website, these attacks have resulted in production losses – leading to a surge in Ukraine’s gas imports as the country struggles to get through the winter.
