Air travel across Moscow’s main airports was severely disrupted, with 527 flights delayed or canceled after a major Ukrainian drone strike on the capital overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.
Russia’s military says air defenses shot down 194 drones “on approach to Moscow,” according to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, marking what officials described as the largest drone attack on the capital since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Previous peaks included 74 drones downed on March 11 and more than 120 intercepted on May 17.
According to multiple local Telegram channels on Thursday, the attack disrupted Moscow’s aviation hub, with Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports reporting widespread delays and cancellations across both departures and arrivals.
Restrictions were temporarily imposed and later lifted in some airports, but operations continued to fluctuate throughout the day.
Major carriers, including Aeroflot and its subsidiary Rossiya, canceled more than 170 flights, while S7 and Nordwind also reported extensive schedule changes and disruptions.
One of the reported targets of the overnight strike was the Moscow oil refinery in Kapotnya, which had already been hit days earlier and partially suspended operations. Local reports said the latest strike triggered a major fire, with monitoring channels claiming multiple ignition points at the facility.

Debris from drones also reportedly fell on the Sadovod shopping center, damaging buildings and sparking a fire, while fragments hit the White Dacha shopping mall, according to regional officials.
In the Moscow region, drone debris damaged residential buildings in several surrounding villages. Authorities said one woman was injured.
Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said 17 were documented injured across the region as of noon local time.
Officials continue to assess the scale of damage as emergency services work across multiple sites in and around the capital.
