Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar said he would welcome a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in the city of Berehove in Ukraine’s Transcarpathian region, signaling that both sides are ready to discuss Ukraine’s future in the EU.
According to Suspilne Media, Magyar confirmed that he spoke with Zelensky on June 18 during a meeting of the EU Council, where they reaffirmed their intention to hold talks.

“I would like to meet in Berehove, and he would like to meet elsewhere,” Magyar said, adding that he “reiterated the name of this city in three languages – Hungarian, Ukrainian and Russian.”
He confirmed that the meeting will take place despite their differing timing and format.
“The meeting will take place. In my opinion, the fate of the world does not depend on this,” Magyar concluded.
Magyar blocks Ukraine fast-track EU push
Earlier on Friday, Magyar said he managed to remove the language on “accelerating” Ukraine’s EU accession from the EU Council summit declaration, after what he described as four hours of intense debate.
He presented the outcome as both a negotiation success for Budapest, as well as a rare moment of unanimity among EU members, saying it allowed for “a closing declaration accepted by all member states” for the first time in a year and a half.
He framed his approach as a compromise rather than complete obstruction, while the EU Council still reaffirms support for Ukraine’s accession path.
