Strikes on Okhtyrka district
The morning attack on the regional capital followed an earlier drone barrage that heavily impacted other parts of the Sumy region. Hryhorov reported that strikes primarily concentrated on the Okhtyrka district and surrounding communities, injuring 10 individuals.
Medical officials confirmed that a 53-year-old female resident of the Kyrykivka community sustained severe burns and remains hospitalized in critical condition. Nine other individuals sought medical assistance for various injuries.
The regional administration stated that the overnight drone strikes caused structural damage to private residential homes and the premises of local gas stations. Officials emphasized that Russian forces deployed a large number of drones flying at low altitudes, a tactic intended to complicate radar detection and interception by Ukrainian air defense systems.

Nationwide drone barrage
The strikes in the Sumy region were part of a broader aerial campaign targeting multiple Ukrainian regions overnight into Saturday. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a total of 129 attack UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models, as well as “Parodiya” decoy drones.
The launches originated from several locations, including Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Orel, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, alongside the occupied Crimean Peninsula and the occupied Donetsk region.
Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups successfully shot down or suppressed 113 of the incoming drones across the northern, southern, and eastern regions. The Air Force recorded 13 direct drone strikes across seven locations, with falling debris impacting three additional sites.
