Denmark announced a new military assistance package worth approximately 4.4 billion Danish kroner ($690 million) for Ukraine on Tuesday, June 30, reaffirming Copenhagen’s long-term support for Kyiv as Russia’s full-scale invasion continues.

According to Denmark’s Defense Ministry, the country’s 30th military aid package includes additional ammunition, weapons, military equipment and funding for training Ukrainian troops.

“Denmark stands unwaveringly behind Ukraine. Ukraine’s fight for freedom is also Europe’s fight, and we cannot afford to fail the Ukrainians when they need us most,” Danish Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus said.

More funding for Ukraine’s defense industry

Of the total package, around 1.3 billion Danish kroner ($204 million) will be allocated to the so-called Danish model, which finances Ukraine’s procurement of military equipment directly from its domestic defense industry.

The mechanism has enabled Ukraine to rapidly acquire drones, artillery systems and ammunition produced by Ukrainian manufacturers, significantly reducing delivery times compared with foreign procurement.

The package also provides additional funding for long-range artillery ammunition, which Danish officials described as one of Ukraine’s most urgent battlefield needs.

Denmark: Pressure on Russia must continue

Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said recent developments on the battlefield should not lead partners to reduce their support for Ukraine.

Ukraine has often been called the breadbasket of Europe because it is home to the extremely fertile black earth known as chernozem, which has propelled the country to become a major grain producer and exporter.

“There is currently a new dynamic on the battlefield in Ukraine. That does not mean we can lean back. On the contrary, we must maintain our support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia to strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position,” Rasmussen said.

One of Ukraine’s largest military supporters

Denmark has remained one of Ukraine’s most active military backers since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

According to the Danish government, Copenhagen has now committed approximately 76.8 billion Danish kroner (about $12 billion) in military assistance to Ukraine.

The latest package comes as several European countries continue expanding support for Ukraine’s domestic defense industry, increasingly prioritizing direct investment in Ukrainian weapons production alongside traditional arms deliveries.
