EXCLUSIVE Pokrovsk War in Ukraine Medics

Inside Ukraine’s Eastern Fortress: How the 1st Assault Regiment Is Holding the Line in Pokrovsk

Filmed on the front lines outside Pokrovsk, this Kyiv Post exclusive takes you inside the command center of Ukraine’s 1st Assault Regiment – where every meter of ground comes at a cost.

July 17, 2025

In this exclusive Kyiv Post video report, we embed with the 1st Separate Assault Regiment – recently upgraded from battalion status for their standout role in holding the line in eastern Ukraine.

From inside a hardened command post, regiment commander Dmytro Filatov shares what went wrong in Bakhmut – and what’s different in Pokrovsk. His troops are exhausted, low on ammo, and under near-constant drone and artillery attack. But they’re still holding.

We also meet chief medic Elena Kostiantynina, who leads a 26-person medical team covering 2,000 soldiers across one of Ukraine’s most dangerous fronts. Her team evacuates the wounded under fire, treats blast injuries with improvised gear, and fights for every life they can save.

Filmed during Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s failed “Victory Day ceasefire,” this is a ground-level look at Ukraine’s war of survival – and the soldiers who refuse to give up.

Watch now to see what it really means to hold the line in Ukraine’s eastern fortress.
