Sabotage or Accident: Strange Blasts Occur in Russia’s Belgorod

Mysterious explosions in the border city of Belgorod, which is close to Ukraine, occurred overnight at the same time as the Russian military were shelling Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city. The two cities are just 80 km apart.

Russian troops regularly bombard Kharkiv from Russian territory, mainly from Belgorod. According to Ukrainian authorities, two people were killed and five injured in Kharkiv by Russian shelling on Thursday, September 8. However, Russian missiles recently began to mysteriously land in Belgorod itself. Strange explosions occur in the city. This could be the work of Ukrainian special services or the actions of partisans.

An explosion occurred at an electricity substation in Belgorod on September 8 near the military enlistment office on Knyaz Trubetskoy Street. One theory is that a rocket launched toward Ukraine hit the substation just as Russian troops were shelling Kharkiv.

Electricity, power and water supply were all lost in Belgorod. Anton Ivanov, the mayor of Belgorod, wrote on his Telegram channel that the power outage was due to an “accident” at the Yuzhnaya substation.

At the same time, residents on social networks reported that at around 2.00 am on September 8, they heard an explosion at the substation. They confirm that the power went out “almost in the entire city.”

As a result, about 10 streets in Belgorod and several nearby villages were left without electricity. Difficulties with water supply are also noted, and local social networks report traffic jams.
