A border guard officer has been injured after being run over at a military checkpoint in Kyiv.

The servicewoman was crossing a road on Monday evening shortly before 21:25 when she was hit by a 66-year-old man driving a Renault along Brovarskyi Avenue from Brovary.

The victim was hospitalized and an investigation has been launched. Preliminary tests showed the driver tested negative for alcohol.

Investigators classified the incident under Part 1 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by a person driving a vehicle, which caused the victim a moderate bodily injury.

This is not the first time that Ukrainian soldiers have been hit by Kyiv drivers while serving at checkpoints.

On October 22, at 00:30, a driver hit a soldier at a checkpoint in Kyiv, killing him on the spot.

Unless the drivers want soldiers defending Ukraine to die, this sounds like it could be the road-crossing soldiers' faults as much as it could be the drivers' faults.
