The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said it struck the Promsintez munitions plant in Chapayevsk, Russia’s Samara region, using drones in the early hours on Saturday, April 5.

Earlier, Russian state media TASS said the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) “attacked an industrial enterprise in the Samara region” but claimed no casualties, citing the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.

Russian Telegram channel Astra also shared a video allegedly depicting the explosions during the drone strike.

Later, the SBU confirmed to Kyiv Post that the agency was behind the drone strike on the munition plant and said “over 20 explosions” were recorded, adding that its attacks were directed toward “absolutely legitimate military targets.”

“SBU drones hit the Promsintez plant in the Russian Federation, which produces explosives,” the SBU told Kyiv Post.

“At night, SBU strike drones attacked the Promsintez plant in Chapayevsk, Samara Region. This plant is one of the leading manufacturers of industrial explosives (ammonal, ammonite, granulite) in the Russian Federation and the [Commonwealth of Independent States] CIS,” the SBU added, referring to the Moscow-led CIS bloc of nations.

The SBU said the attack halted the operations at the plant.
