The top US diplomat on Thursday condemned Russia’s overnight deadly barrage of missile strikes on Kyiv after talks to reach a peace deal failed.
“It’s horrible,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters when asked about Russia’s war during an Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, adding that last night’s attacks “should remind everybody of why their war needs to end.”

Rubio went on to call the war “endable”.
“Both sides just have to agree to it,” he said. “We’ve shown them a pathway forward. We’ve discussed those ideas … We’ve shown them the finish line,” Rubio added without offering any details.
Rubio abruptly cancelled his plan to attend this week’s UK-led peace talks, after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly rejected a reported Trump proposal that entails giving up Crimea.
The White House had yet to publicly offer specifics on its peace plan.
In the meantime, Rubio on Thursday insisted that “we can see the finish line, but both of them have to get there.”
“We’re going to do everything we can to help them get there, but they have to ultimately say yes,” he said.
“We are using a lot of pressure on both,” Rubio concluded.
