Ukrainian intelligence services have eliminated Russian Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik, who served as Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operational Directorate, Secretary of the National Security Committee Roman Kostenko confirmed in an interview.
“What can I say? I’m pleased. This is the right work by our intelligence services,” Kostenko said. “I believe we must understand that even if we reach a ceasefire soon, the work of intelligence services will only be beginning.”

Kostenko confirmed Ukraine’s elimination of Mosalik in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda posted on YouTube.
He also stated that such operations target all individuals involved in war crimes against Ukraine – those who fired at civilians, launched missiles, analyzed targets, made decisions, or gave orders.
“This will become the primary mission of our intelligence services and the SBU: to ensure these people are punished, no matter where they are. They should be afraid even to leave their homes, let alone leave the territory of the Russian Federation,” Kostenko added.
President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that the Russian general, Moskalik, was eliminated by operatives of the Foreign Intelligence Service.
“The Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service reported the elimination of individuals from the senior command of the Russian Armed Forces,” Zelensky said on Monday, April 28. “Justice inevitably comes. The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported on our continued measures to counter Russian agent networks and saboteurs in Ukraine. Good results. Thank you for your work.”

On April 25, an explosion occurred in Balashikha, Moscow region, killing Moskalik. The explosive device detonated in a parked Volkswagen Golf just as Moskalik was passing by. The blast threw him back, killing him instantly.
The explosion also shattered windows on the lower floors of nearby buildings.
Preliminary reports indicate that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted in the vehicle. Russian officials said the car’s previous owner had sold it shortly before the incident to a new buyer — a citizen of Azerbaijan.
Shortly after the explosion, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the arrest of a suspect. According to the FSB, the individual is 42-year-old Hnat Kuzin, whom they describe as “an agent of Ukrainian intelligence services.”
Investigators claim that Kuzin purchased the Volkswagen Golf and planted a homemade bomb inside it. According to the FSB, he allegedly obtained the explosive components from a cache that had been prepared in advance by Ukrainian intelligence in the Moscow region.
Moskalik served nearly 40 years in the Russian military. In 2015, he participated in negotiations with Ukraine as part of the “Normandy format” and also acted as a spokesperson on Russia’s military operation in Syria.
At the time of his death, Moskalik held a key position within Russia’s General Staff — he was Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate, responsible for planning and coordinating military operations.
