At least 45 people were injured in a major drone attack on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv overnight, local officials said Wednesday, April 30.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 16 strikes hit the city by 11:26 p.m. local time Tuesday, damaging apartment buildings, private homes, a medical center, and other civilian infrastructure.

Among the injured were a 16-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl, and a 24-year-old pregnant woman, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.

Several areas in central Kharkiv were hit, including the Slobidskyi district, where a high-rise apartment building was damaged, and the Saltivskyi district.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been under regular attack since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.

In a separate incident in Dnipro, central Ukraine, one person was killed and another was injured in a Russian drone strike overnight, local authorities said. At least five private houses were also damaged, according to regional governor Serhiy Lysak and Mayor Borys Filatov.

Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities have increased recently despite US President Donald Trump’s push for quick peace, with at least 164 civilians killed in March alone.
