The top US diplomat this morning reiterated the American position of an immediate ceasefire in a meeting with Turkish and Ukrainian officials, Kyiv Post’s correspondent who is traveling with Rubio in Istanbul reports.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Yermak, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Istanbul’s Dolmabahçe Palace to discuss the importance of seeking a peaceful end to the Russia-Ukraine war, the State Department said.

“The Secretary noted today’s direct talks between Russia and Ukraine while reiterating the US position that the killing needs to stop” Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a readout of the meeting.Rubio also thanked Fidan for hosting these important discussions.
Meeting between Russia and Ukraine – the first direct negotiations in three years – are due to get under way soon.
Kyiv Post’s correspondent reports that Rubio is currently meeting with senior aides to the French, British, and German leaders.
