Writing on X, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that “Putin mocks [European] and [US] peace efforts.” His post was linked to pictures of the damaged EU headquarters in the city.
The British Council’s offices in Kyiv were also hit in one of the largest aerial bombardments of Russia’s three-and-a-half-year-long invasion.
Images showed the building of the UK’s cultural outreach organization with its windows blown out.
European Council President António Costa claimed the attack on the EU building was “deliberate” but insisted that “the EU will not be intimidated.”
“Russia’s aggression only strengthens our resolve to stand with Ukraine and its people,” he wrote on X.
While backing US President Donald Trump’s attempts to forge a ceasefire or peace agreement in Ukraine, many European leaders have accused Putin of not taking peace efforts seriously.
Trump has also expressed frustration at Russian attacks on civilian targets and threatened to sanction Russia if no further progress is made in peace negotiations.

But despite Trump’s recent meetings with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky – who was joined in Washington by top European leaders – a deal to stop the fighting seems far away.
EU staff ‘safe’
Reacting to the overnight attack on Kyiv, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU delegation staff in the Ukrainian capital were “safe.”
“Another night of Russia’s relentless bombings struck civilian infrastructure and killed innocents,” she added.
“Russia must stop its indiscriminatory attacks on civilian infrastructure immediately and join negotiations for a just and lasting peace.
The EU’s commissioner for enlargement, Marta Kos, said: “I strongly condemn these brutal attacks, a clear sign that Russia rejects peace & chooses terror.
“Our full solidarity goes to EU staff, their families and all Ukrainians enduring this aggression.”
