In an exclusive interview with The Guardian published on Tuesda, Zelensky said that Charles had privately influenced Trump after the two met during the US president’s state visit to the United Kingdom in September.
“I don’t know all the details but I understand His Majesty sent some important signals to President Trump,” Zelensky said.

According to the Ukrainian leader, the monarch’s intervention came after a tense and widely televised meeting in February, when Trump publicly rebuked Zelensky in the Oval Office and abruptly ended their talks.
‘Very supportive of our people’
Zelensky described King Charles as “very supportive” of Ukraine and said the monarch had shown deep empathy toward Ukrainians enduring the third year of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
He added that Trump appeared to hold the king in unusually high regard – “very important,” as Zelensky put it – a genuine compliment that the US president, in his view, rarely extends to others:
“He respects the king and considers him to be very important – not many people receive that from him.”
Diplomatic ripple effects
While Zelensky said he was unaware of the precise content of the royal conversation, he suggested that the British monarch’s quiet diplomacy may have helped ease tensions between Kyiv and Washington.
The remarks mark a rare public acknowledgment of the role played by King Charles in Ukraine’s broader diplomatic outreach as Kyiv seeks to maintain bipartisan and international backing for its defense against Russia.

Zelensky’s comments also reflect the shifting dynamics of Ukraine’s relationship with Washington since Trump’s return to office earlier this year, as Kyiv has worked to adapt to the new administration’s foreign-policy priorities.
